There are 4 models both suitable for 35mm and medium format cameras up to light 6 x 6 cm. Both the G1227 and G1228 feature grooved Rapid centre columns; the G1227G and G1228G have geared centre columns. All are performance type, which enables the legs to be set individually at 24?, 60? and 90? to cover every angle you want to shoot. The G1228 has 4 leg sections, ideal for backpacks and the G1227 has 3 section legs, both providing no compromise stability on location or in the studio.

I purchased this excellent tripod at B&H Photo in New York City.The Gitzo G1227 Mountaineer Reporter Mk2 is a very lightweight but very strong tripod. It will hold up to 17.60 lbs. which is plenty of strength for most camera and bigger lens configurations. It has quality construction written all over it and the thing I like best is the easy way you can change the height of the three tripod legs....

This is an excellent everyday tripod that can be used conveniently inside a studio or packed for field use. Weighing in at only 3.4 lbs. with the rapid center column and standing 54.7 inches tall without the rapid column or 63.4 with the column fully extended this is neither the lightest or the tallest or the least expensive of all the Gitzos, but it is a great bang for the Gitzo buck for anyone...
