Strengths:  well made
Weaknesses:  Hard to get camera level,harder to use than I thought. Hard to control when camera, flash, bracket are all on the tripod.
Review:  I am not as impressed with this as I thought I would be. I liked it ok when it was holding my camera and lens only, but add the weigh and height of the flash and bracket and it is very hard to use (my equipment totals 6 lbs this ballhead claims to support 13.2). I have a lot of trouble trying to get it level. It claims to be easy to use with one hand. Maybe for a strong man, but I do not have ...

Strengths:  solid, reliable and easy to use.
Weaknesses:  heavy.
Review:  I bought this along with my new Manfrotto 055xpro tripod. It is solid like a rock. The independent pan is so useful when you're shooting macro that require you to lower your tripod close to the ground. I really like this head even it is heavier than the 486RC2. Extra pound of weight won't kill me :)

Strengths:  well constructed...knob is smooth and works well...quick-release plate...compact
Weaknesses:  can be a bit small when using long, heavy lenses
Review:  I use this ball head with the Manfrotto 3001Pro tripod legs. This combo is small and light enough to carry around town in a canvas bag. Ball head system works great for positioning camera. My Nikon D70 with the 18-70 kit lens seems heavy on top of the tripod, but the ball head holds it securely.
