No competitiors about SHARPNESS
Strengths: Scary Sharpness!! I don't know how a lens could be sharper than this one. Price value!! Currently (after Oct/18/07~Dec/31/07), Pentax rebate promotion does not cover their macro lens while Tamron does.
Weakness: Slower autofocus than regular lens(i.e., 70/2.4 Limited, 77/1.8 Limited, etc), but when used for macro I have not seen these issues seriously.
I purchased it about USD 400, this lens worth every cent I paid. In addition, I will get USD 90 rebate. The build quality is very good with an exceptionally smooth but little damped focus ring. Pentax fittings have an aperture ring just in front of the mount, which is not required on the Canon or Minolta mounts. Somebody said to me, it's not quite as impressive as the Canon in this respect...
