Strengths: Very sharp, fast, and 6-year warranty
Weakness: a little bit too noise, no Image stabilization, but I guess I'm asking too much for the price $399 i paid.
I had this lens on my Canon 350D for about a month. I can do so much things with this lense. It is relatively small and light, so I can take it everywhere. Since it is fast (f/2.8), I can use it in low light or indoors or to stop actions. For the price, paid $399, this Tamron 17-50 is a bargain lens.
Strengths: sharp image, quick focus, very good distortion control
Weakness: no window for depth of field
i got the good price from pricegrabber's list, and bought this lens from BEACH CAMERA. I got it quickly, and I am satisfied with the images I took with this lens. The quality of image is very good, sharp, great color and low distortion. The lens cap is a very good design, which is better than that of sigma's. The lens hood is also very nice.
Strengths: large f/2.8 aperature throughout zoom range, small size
Weakness: no image stabilization
Canon makes a similar lens with image stabilization, but it costs almost three times as much and is a bit larger and heavier. I've found this lens to produce nice photos in low light. It also fits well on the Rebel XT.
Strengths: Very sharp, max aperture of 2.8, relatively low-price.
Weakness: Auto focus slightly noisy. Auto focus hunts slightly in low light.
Love this lens. Very good alternative to the more expensive Canon brand. Good performance across focal range and across aperture range. Very impressed with the sharpness even at wide open f2.8. If you don't want to spend >$1000 on canon lens with similar focal range, this lens is highly recommended.
Strengths: Light weight, sharp and fast. No incompatibility with Canon cameras.
Weakness: Doesn't have IS
If you have a 10mp+ camera, just get this lens instead of the kit lens. The kit lens won't do the justice to your camera's sensor, so why spending money for high megapixel camera and not utilizing it's full potential? Read the reviews on photography websites, and you'll see what I mean when I say It's fast, and tack sharp. I have been using my friend's lens for a while and finally decided to buy...
Strengths: MUCH CHEAPER than the Canon equivalent and optically the same.
Weakness: No full time manual focus. Auto-Focus occasionally hunts in low-light situations.
This is an absolutely amazing lens that produces very sharp images. I tested this lens at a local camera store against the Canon 17-55 2.8 IS and I must say that I could not see any differences when viewing the raw files. Also this lens is MUCH lighter than the Canon equivalent, as well as $500 cheaper. I absolutely love my Tamron and it never leaves my camera.
Strengths: F2.8, 17mm, Lighter, more compact, and much better value than the Canon 17-55 L
Weakness: F2.8 at 50mm is a bit soft for my taste but that's the extreme of the lens so I may be asking too much. 50mm is a bit short for crop cameras but very usable.
Solid build. Image quality is very good. Well designed lens cap! 17mm is great. Surprisingly (for me), 17mm is quite useful for taking pictures in vertical format. Before getting this lens, I thought wide angle is only useful for wide landscapes. (rookie me...) Compared with the Canon 17-55 L lens. It is lighter and more compact. It costs about half the price. Some people may miss IS on the...
Strengths: Very sharp; large aperture f/2.8 (good for low-light shooting); less than half the price of the comparable canon lens.
Weakness: AF is a bit noisy; zoom ring rotates in opposite direction to canon.
This lens is a very good value for what it costs and what it gives. Its sharpness is comparable, if not better, than canon's pro series 17-40mm L lens, but at less than half the cost! Only down side is that AF is a bit noisy and the zoom ring takes some getting used to as it rotates in the opposite direction of that of canon lenses.
Strengths: Very fast and flexible
Weakness: None
In one day after placing the order i realized that the UV filter i chose was wrong. They replaced it with a right one (which was more expensive) and did not charge me additionally! The camera and lenses were in brand new condition. Delivery was fast. The price was amazing.

Great Lens
Strengths: Sharp and fast
Weakness: Not air tight
The sharpness of this lens is very comparable to the Canon 17-40L; however, color and contrast are not as good, but that can be corrected via software. I am very happy with this lens, but my biggest gripe is that after only a few weeks, the lens has a good amount of dust inside, some of it being larger than a spec. It's not noticeable in photos unless you're at f/32, but I have a feeling I will...
