Lens Construction: 6 Elements in 6 Groups
Strengths: Very fast in focusing and sharp
Weakness: A bit noisy on focusing compared w/AF-S
My primary body is D80. I got this lens for indoor soccer game. The light condition of the soccer field is very dim, most of the time I have to shoot w/max aperture (f/1.8), however, the result is still very present and bold. The bokeh is beautiful; focusing is quick and snappy. Highly recommended.
Strengths: Sharp lens.
Weakness: Have to buy a lens case
I was looking at a nice portrait for my D70. 85mm f/1.4 was my first choice since the lens produce really suppurb quality image--sharp foreground and completely washed away background. However, with the price tag of nearly $1000, I have a second thought. The next best thing is this lens--the 85mm f/1.8. This is a really sharp lens, too. See picture attached. Highly recommended.
Strengths: Light, fast lens Super sharp
Weakness: A little bit noisy during focusing Bokeh not as good as F1.4D
It comes with the metal lens hood, which can probably save you the money for UV. Super sharp, a good potrait lens for Nikon DSLRs if you can not affort the F1.4D.
Strengths: Very Sharp. Compact
Weakness: Kind of expensive
I got this lens for my Nikon D70 DSLR and very pleased with the result. I use it for portait. It produces very sharp photo, meet my expection. Recommended.

Sharp as a knife
Strengths: It's a very sharp lens yielding amazing photos, compact, and fast.
Weakness: A slight bit on the heavy side, requires a fairly far distance to use, not very practical for many indoor situations as a result.
It's an incredibly sharp lens that yields fantastic photos. Photos taken with it are breath taking, however, because it's an 85mm prime lens, you must have a minimum of 3.5ft between you and your subject for it to focus and work. This isn't always practical for many indoor situations such as smaller rooms, hallways, etc. If the locations you typically shoot allows you a good amount of space...
