Strengths: Great zoom range, excellent clarity and fast AF; relatively compact length; value for money
Weakness: Slightly 'plasticy' feel, but that keep weight down, 72mm lens thread can be hard to get cheap filters for (not really an issue if ordering online)
I bought this lens for my D40 as I did not want to carry and change two separate lenses and the 18-80mm standard lens did not have enough 'reach'. This has more than met my expectations on that front as there are very few shots I make when I think, 'gosh, I wish I had a 80-200mm or longer zoom').
