f/4.5 to 5.6 - MPN: 9321A002 See Product Details
Description
A superior performance, ultra-compact telephoto zoom lens with Canon's Image Stabilization. These Diffractive Optics elements are combined to reduce size and boost image quality. AF is super-fast and silent with a ring-type USM, and it focuses down to 4.6 feet, without rotating the front element. A new zoom lock button keeps the lens safe and secure when not in use or used at the wide angle.

Strengths: Size, Weight, Build, Zoom Range, IS, Focus Speed
Weakness: DO, Speed (f/4.5-5.6), Price!
I have very mixed feelings about this lens. For the zoom range there isn't another lens that can compete on size or weight. This is because of the DO that Canon uses in the lens. While the DO technology allows the lens to be very small it does introduce some strange "bullseye" shaped artifacts in certain of the unfocused areas of images. On the positive side the 3rd generation IS that this lense...
Strengths: light, compact
Weakness: soft, price
I really annoyed when I tried that lens ( sadly, after brought to home )... The reason for buying that lens was "having a sharp lens" .. But, whenever compare with my 75-300 USM III lens ( it is the cheapest lens from canon ) it was very obvious that DO lens is softer. And sold that lens immediatelly. If you looking for a light, compact lens it is great. BUt if you looking for sharp lens...
Strengths: size/ weight / range/ focus speed/ built / IS
Weakness: price
I'm happy with this lens.Yes some pics can be a little soft, but a little easy post processing even with a free program like Picaso sharpens pics right up
Strengths: The clarity, the small size, lightweight
Weakness: The price.
Overall, I rate this lens very high. It is truly a superb lens. The zoom range covers a broad spectrum of abilities. The sharpness is incredible. The cost is very high, but you are playing for a name brand lens. Well worth the money spent!
The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM lens was released back in 2004 as a smaller, lighter alternative to Canon's L-series telephoto lenses, yet still offering superb image quality thanks to its Diffractive Optical (DO) element. With the recent release of the 70-300mm L series lens, which we enthusiastically reviewed last week, is the slightly cheaper 70-300mm DO lens still worth considering?...

Canon launched the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO( Diffractive Optics) IS USM Lens with features like image stabilization, fast and quiet AF, with telephoto zoom lens. After the Canon EF 400mm f/4 DO IS USM Lens, this is Canon’s second DO lens. As compare to Canon EF 70-300mm non-DO IS USM Lens, the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM Lens has the Ring USM (Ultrasonic Motor) Technology,...

Expensive but portable zoom lens
Strengths: Compact; lightweight; discreet; good zoom range; image stabilization; good built quality; includes lens hood
Weakness: Very Expensive!
I have had this for 1-1/2 years, and have been generally very happy. I was wanting a compact, discreet zoom lens with image stabilization, and this was the only one available at the time. Since then, Canon has added a 70-300 IS lens, which is lightweight, but bulky. I originally bought a 70-200 L lens due to it fantastic reputation. While I loved the picture, I didn't like the fact that it was so...
