Summary
Product Title: Panasonic DV PROLINE Digital Camcorder - 3.5" - CCD
Manufacturer: Panasonic
Power Score: 4.1 | 8 Reviews
Strengths: Compact for a pro-grade camcorder, sturdy construction, highly tailorable, outstanding autofocus for sports and wildlife, and (most importantly) great video.
Weakness: Cost seems a bit high considering the alternatives; plan on dropping $350 more on a Bogen / Manfrotto pan handle/controller (& more yet if you don't already own one of their fluid heads).
As advertised, this is an ideal second camera for serious videographers or a great step up for aspiring pros (like myself). I won't duplicate reviews available elsewhere (this camera was CNET editor's choice), but I'll tell you what I would like to know if I was considering this camera. (1) If you're considering this camera, you're probably also considering the Canon GL2 and the Sony DCR-VX2100....
Strengths: Video quality and low light are great. IR B&W shooting. Manual control of everything. Big LCD, 16X Optical Zoom. CineGamma (like DVX100A). Not too big, not too small - just right.
Weakness: No Multi Function Ring. Desirable add-ons are spendy. No memory card feature for stills. Spendy for having similar features to the GS400 (quite a bit cheaper). No true 16x9 no built in XLR inputs.
The Panasonic DVC30 produces an outstanding picture for a "small" price. You won't find better low light in any camera near this price range except the Sony VX2100/PD170 which cannot be beat in low light. The picture quality (regular and low light) is better than the Canon GL2 and the Sony TRV950 in my honest opinion. I have been looking to upgrade my camcorder for awhile, but couldn't get all...
Strengths: The size and great look of this camera makes it a good choice. I paid about $1,400 for mine. Excellent video, good audio. The super night mode really works to shoot B/W in near absolute dark.
Weakness: None really for the money.
I really like the dvc30. It was a good choice; however sony's vx2100 probably would have been a better choice because of the low light color video it takes.

The AG-DVC30 has a solid feel and is moderately heavy for a small camera, but is still very well balanced. You have good access to frequently used controls such as white balance, focus, iris, menu and others. A good example is the well-placed auto-manual slider at lower left rear of the body. Even the time code display has its own button and can be quickly toggled from a user-zeroable tape...

If you enjoy shooting a variety of subjects that require the features of several camcorders, then you'll want to look closely at the new 1/4-inch 3-CCD Panasonic AG-DVC30. Most camcorders have particular design features made for a particular type of user. The AG-DVC30, however, has something for the wedding, documentary, sports, nature and even industrial videographer.

Panasonic's new $2,595 (MSRP) AG-DVC30 is really many cameras in one. This model jumps into the arena with other ¼ inch prosumer cameras such as the popular GL-2 and the PDX10. Panasonic has not competed in this arena for a while and judging from the AG-DVC30, they did their home work while sitting on the sideline. The three chip ¼ inch cameras have a tough niche to fill because they are used...

I love this little camera! Highly recommended.
Strengths: 1. Great price. 2. Very good picture quality. 3. Excellent low light capabilities. 4. Excellent auto-focus. 5. Excellent zoom range and control. 6. Small and light. 7. Small and compact.
Weakness: 1. Ok, internal mic. Low audio output. 2. No true 16x9 mode. 16x9 squeeze mode reduces quality.
I have used this camera on three shoots so far and it continues to surprise and impress me. For the money its an excellent deal. The image quality is comparable to its big brother the AG-DVX100. Didn't think the night modes were would be usefull but they can be and can produce some very artistic shots in B&W. My only disappointment is no true 16x9 mode. The 16x9 modes they have reduces image...
