Great camera for the price

Strengths: Quick "on" time, high frame rate, excellent feature set for the price

Weakness: Too much flexibility! (Just kidding.)

If you're serious about buying a D-SLR, this is the unit to get. The lenses Canon offers, the frame rate (5 FPS), and the unbelievably detailed features are simply phenominal. Terrific for what I need; if you want more, you'll have to go to a 1D, but I just didn't see the need (three more FPS? who needs it?). Backward compatible with just about every EOS lens out there. If I have any quibbles,...

Update after almost one year.

Strengths: This camera has a good feel. The rubberized grip is comfortable. Controls are generally intuitive. Image quality is exceptional, and all functions operate quickly, including focus.

Weakness: You can't get in real close with the 17-85mm lens. Macro capability is better with the 18-55mm kit lens, although I still prefer the 17-85mm for virtually all uses other than macro.

I purchased this camera after first considering the Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D). I kept reading reviews comparing the XT to the 20D. Most of the comparisons favored the 20D, so I decided to take a look at the "other" camera. With the $100 rebate currently available on the 20D, the XT is "only" a few hundred dollars less than the 20D. Although the XT reportedly matches the image quality of the...

Canon EOS 20D 8.2 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: From "sleep" to first photo-REALLY FAST!! I love the sepia setting as well as the filters for your black and white photos--great for landscapes and cloud pictures. The 17-85 lens is fantastic!!

Weakness: None so far

Omigosh, what a super camera!! I always wanted the "birthday party to soccer field" lens, and with the 1.6x magnifier, I lost the wide angle with my Canon 28-200 which now became a 45-320. The 17-85 more than makes up for it!! I now have my wide angle to portrait lens, and the aforementioned lens will be just fine for any telephoto needs. I also have done lots of b/w photography in the past and...

Canon EOS 20D 8.2 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: Low Noise, Image Quality, Ease of Use, Battery Life

Weakness: Its hardly a weakness... but I love it so much that I want to take it with me everywhere, and its a little heavy and large to do that.

This is a great camera. I am very happy with the quality of the color and sharpness. The battery lasts for quite a long time. It has features that make it great for professional work such as a pc connector. However, I have heard that if you plan on using this camera with a strobe set - and want to be careful- it is worth purchasing a hot shoe - pc converter that regulates the voltage so as not to...

Canon EOS 20D 8.2 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: Extremely Fast Power-On. Extremely Fast Auto Focus, 5 frames per second shooting, Extremely long battery life, Compatible with all of Canon's EF and EFS series lenses. Best camera for the price!

Weakness: None Really. Just make sure you pick up at least a 2GB Compact Flash Memory card to store all your images. This camera doesn't include one - which I really prefer. It's better that way.

I used a Canon G2 4.0 megapixel camera and this Canon EOS 20D is definitely all that AND a bag of chips. Don't let the price tag scare you. It's really well worth the price and looking back at it, this 20D camera is THE BEST purchase that I've made in a long time. I'm not even kidding. That's why this camera has so many great reviews from all sorts of people. It absolutely takes great stunning...

Canon EOS 20D 8.2 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: Easy to use out of box. Beautiful shots. Fast recovery to next shot - no lag. Flash surprisingly balanced.

Weakness: Advanced functions a bit challenging to use.

The camera itself is wonderful. Beautiful pictures with great color reproduction. Auto focus is fast and accurate. My kids are very fast moving and the opportunity for the great picture is fleeting - most digital cameras I have difficulty capturing the shot because of their delays. Not with this camera - everything is so fast. The 17-85 mm kit is great - covers the focal lengths I usually use....

Canon EOS 20D 8.2 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: Image quality, low noise, nearly instant startup, fast burst mode

Weakness: Almost too many functions--I'll have to dig into the camera more to find weaknesses

The image quality is excellent. I'm especially impressed with the low noise on the higher ISO settings. Also, the image stabilizer seems to work pretty well. All of this means that I can take great pictures in low light without a tripod. My previous camera was a Canon G2, and the 20D is a great improvement. Besides being able to shoot in low light now, the nearly instant startup and fast burst...

Canon EOS 20D 8.2 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: Excellent picture quality. Burst mode is a pleasure to use. Built-in flash is surprisingly useful. Digital menu system easy to use as are the buttons and dials. Quick start-up and response time.

Weakness: Haven't found any yet.

This is my first digital SLR; initially I was considering Nikon D70 and Canon 20D, and then more recently Canon 350D and 20D. While slightly more expensive than either of the "contestants" 20D's features still came out as the clear winner. As of writing of this review I've taken about 500 shots with the camera, still learning it's countless features. My previous SLR was a Nikon film camera about...

Canon EOS 20D 8.2 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body...

Strengths: Solid feel. Every imaginable function well positioned and easily accessed. Great picture quality. Surprisingly easy to learn and to use. Definitely worth the money.

Weakness: Haven't found any yet!

I switched to Canon from Nikon after comparing this camera to the D70. The D70 is good; this one is great! I can't imagine ever wanting more than this camera offers.

DCRP Review: Canon EOS-20D

I'll be blunt: the Canon EOS-20D is the best reasonably priced digital SLR that I've tested. And by reasonably priced I meant under $2000. There's so much to like about the 20D, I don't know where to start. Photo quality is excellent, with photos having an ultra smooth look to them. Color and exposure were both accurate. Personally I'd crank the sharpness up another notch, but that's just me....

Canon EOS-20D

Canon has a history of making excellent digital SLRs, but the EOS-20D truly raises the bar for the entire market. In any attribute you might care to name -- color rendition, image noise, resolution, shooting speed, autofocus performance, on and on -- the EOS-20D defines the state of the art for its price range. While there are certainly other worthy digital SLRs selling for less than the 20D,...
