Weakness: Included kit lenses are above average performers, but not as good as some competitor kit lenses; shutter click is noticeable in quiet settings; accessories can be expensive; no SDHC support
This is a great camera value. While Sony is traditionally associated with design, technology and performance (not value), the consumer electronics conglomerate is making a hard push into the digital SLR market. As a result, their pricing these cameras below competitors, while adding premium features to swing the undecided. If you can get over not having a Canon or Nikon branded camera, you'll...
Strengths: View finder is great, matched w 70-300 mm lens is great for far away portratits
Weakness: None yet I need to figure how to get less red eye on flash pictures. The noise is a little loud when shooting. Could be problem if phot animals in wild.
Extremely happy with this purchase. First new camera for me since Canon AE1. I love the view finder to see pictures immediately. Dont like it, delete it. The ability to adjust to individual eye vision is great. Ability to change picture after taken is too cool!
Strengths: 1. Wide choices of Lens (competitable with Monolta's Lens) 2. Grip is good for small to middle size hands user 3. LiveView 4. Great Price for a starter dSLR
Weakness: 1. Accessories are expensive 2. Switch back to MF when you change mode
After owning this camera for 2 week, I have took around 1200 pictures in several different situation, I have found it pretty reliable. 1. I took most of my pictures out door, my pictures are very detailed. When using Marco mode, I can see every single detail on the lizard's skin. When setting ISO 200, you can get most of the outdoor pictures perfectly. 2. I went to a wedding dinner with it. Took...
Strengths: dedicated "no-flash" mode on the dial, liveview with tilting LCD (just like using a small digital camera except larger), easy to use functions,
Weakness: expensive sony lenses, lcd is a bit exposed to scratches and damage
I have had the Sony A300K for 2 weeks. This is my first DSLR. I wanted a camera to take pictures of my 1 year old son. Wanted the Sony 50F14 lens but $350 is too much! Got a Minolta 50mm f/1.7 lens at ebay for $100 and very happy with it. Takes such wonderful portrait pictures I was in love with my camera from day one! One of the things I really love about the camera is that on the different mode...
Strengths: In-Camera Image Stabilization, Best LiveView in the market, Tiltable LCD, Longer reach Kit lens(18-70mm), Minolta-Mount Lens compatible, LOW PRICE
Weakness: Accessories are EXPENSIVE!
This DSLR is the best one in the market for the price! Picture quality is great. I like In-Camera Image Stabilization; any lens you put on, get IS. The Kit lens that comes with it has better range than all the competitors (18-70mm vs 18-55mm). I'm sold on the Tiltable LiveView LCD, allow me to shoot in different positions. The only negative I found is all Sony Accessories are SO EXPENSIVE; extra...
Strengths: good price, live view
Weakness: None so far
This is a great camera for beginners of SLR's to learn on but ain't too bad for those of you who know what you are doing. I myself have had film SLR's for many years, this is my first DSLR and cost was a factor for me. I am in no way made of money so the low price really sold me (no pun intended). The features you expect from an SLR are all there, and you can go from full auto to full manual and...
Strengths: Price; 10.2MP; Live View; 18-70mm Kit Lens; Tiltable LCD; In-camera image stabilization.
Weakness: CF, button place and function; LCD view angle
Strengths: Best Price: Compare to Canon EOS 450D (Digtial Rebal XSi), Nikon D60 and Pentax K200D. Longest kit lens: 18-70mm while other brands only offer 18-55mm. Unique and fastest Live View: Operation just like a traditional DC. Other Brands’ live view function uses the main imaging sensor and requires flipping the reflex mirror to AF. Sony adds a small sensor in the viewfinder to generate...
Strengths: Good performance and low price. Live view is useful for green hand.
Weakness: CompactFlash is more expensive than SD card. The lens is fewer than Canon anf Nikon.
I just used the new camera for the first time at a BBQ party. I took many pictures like view, portrait, Sport etc. It is very easy to use and Live View is helpful for me. Image quality is 1st rart. I have to say that Sony A300K is great product amone many primary DSLR products.
Strengths: live view, tiltable lcd, autofocus starts when you place eye at viewfinder, iso 100 setting.
Weakness: Ergonomics. Camera is not particularly well balanced in the hand- Nikon D40 fits more naturally. Kind of bulky.
Good camera with excellent features. Fun to use, takes good photo's. Ergonomics not as good as my other DSLR - Nikon D40. Also would prefer SD card rather than compact flash and would also appreciate using a standard mini-usb to connect to camera and then to computer. Like much of Sony's products they like prefer to use a proprietary connector (looks like mini usb but is not) to download pics...
The Sony Alpha DSLR-A300, along with the DSLR-A350 are Sonys latest announced Digital SLR cameras. These models are essentially upgrades to the Alpha DSLR-A200 release in the fall of 2007. Both the 350 and 300 have two distinct new features: 1) Live View mode for the LCD viewfinder, and 2) an articulating LCD screen. The A300 features a 10.8 megapixel sensor, whereas the A350 boasts an impressive...

The Sony Alpha A300 is a feature-packed 10.2 Megapixel DSLR with a compelling price tag. With built-in stabilisation, Live View and a flip-out screen, it ticks the boxes of most new DSLR buyers. Sony's fuss-free Live View is also arguably the best implementation yet for general consumers: it's quick, quiet and offers uncompromised auto-focusing performance. If you've fallen for Sony's Live View...

Great budget entry level dSLR
Strengths: Very user friendly Decent amount of advanced user functions Great as a first camera Built in image stabilization into the body
Weakness: Kit lens not so great Noise at higher ISOs, but works well for smaller prints/pictures.
This was my first dSLR and I love it. It has all the features I wanted. It's everything you expect out of a dSLR. It's built off of the a200 but it's got the addition of live view and a tiltable screen. The liveview comes in handy sometimes, but I find myself using the viewfinder the most. The screen is nice and big and shows pictures nicely. You won't find liveview on many other cameras (nikon...
