SP-550 UZ Camera a good buy

Strengths: I first got this camera from work as a real estate photographer. I have been using it for almost two years. It is very good quality and takes great pictures.

Weakness: The main problem I have had with this camera is the shutter not lasting. I am on my third camera in a year and a half. The two previous to the one I just bought had the same problem.

This is a great camera for home use. If you do a good search of the internet you can find it for a great price. Depending on usage it should last quit a while.

Best of its Kind!

Strengths: 18x Zoom, Manual Focus, Timeslice, Adjusting Flash Strength, Area Focus, Battery Life,15FPS,Instant Help on pressing Display button

Weakness: ISO 400+ is bad, Expected Screen cover or Swivel

I am been using various cameras, this one is really different and best of its kind, you really need not worry about the light, distance, speed anything, its a good cam with tons of features. Infact i could capture every moment as i wanted. In Movie mode, we cannot zoom when Audio is enabled Scn and Guide mode will help amature users

Great in the right setting. Frustrating in some...

Strengths: 18X optical zoom, stabilized. Compact for such a big zoom. Good at indoor portraits. Good in high contrast settings. Very solidly built. Fast burst rate for instructional purposes.

Weakness: Slow focus or even inability to focus in hazy or overcast conditions.

I love superzooms. Have owned the Olympus C-2100, C-735, Fuji S5100, S5200, and S9100. Love to take pictures of sports competitions from distant seats. For single shots of players in day games, this camera is very good. You need to prefocus, of course, but if you do, you can get some very good shots that you wouldn't get with the other cameras I have owned. There are two burst modes. The faster...

Great all around camera

Strengths: 18x zoom is fantastic. Uses AA batteries, no special battery needed. Bright and clear LCD. Rubberized case makes it easy to hold onto. Built-in user guide is easy to understand.

Weakness: No manual focus mode. Does not have an external flash shoe. The mini-USB connector on the camera is different from standard cables, so you need the supplied cable to download picutres.

This camera replaced a well-worn Olympus C-750 Ultra Zoom. The new camera is a huge improvement from the old unit. The SP-550UZ operates much faster than the C-750UZ. Taking zoom pictures indoors is much easier with the SP-550UZ. I do recommend getting rechargable batteries for the camera as the SP-550UZ ships with regular alkalines. The add-on zoom lens I had from the C-750 just needed a new...

Great alternative to SLR Camera

Strengths: long zoom lens, image stabilization, solidly built, uses AA batteries

Weakness: Uses expensive xD Picture Cards

Very good camera, not too heavy considering long zoom lens, image stabilization works. Execellent quality pictures. Ergonomic design, comfortable to hold. Uses AA batteries which I prefer over proprietary batteries.

Good Camera

Strengths: 18x optical zoom, many manual functions, programmable custom button, great low light images, super close macro, lightweight

Weakness: Bright Capture lcd in sunlight, manual focus not too accurate, conversion lens adapter eliminates wide angle images

The camera has a super zoom and amazing macro functions! And I love all the manual setting choices. It almost has too many! You can also program the IS button to do other functions, which is nice. The Bright Capture lcd has pros and cons. It is great in low light. In fact, the camera takes excellent low light pictures! But in bright sunlight it causes a pink sheen to cast on the lcd screen. This...

Pre-Production model.

Strengths: Amazing 18x optical zoom & wide angle, uses AA-batteries, black color, full manual control, zoom level on shutter button, RAW support, AF-assist lamp.

Weakness: CCD Sensor size 1/2.5"(boo)(way not 1/1.8"?), not present (?) 16:9 movie & photo mode (necessity support MPEG4 codec), absence swivel LCD display, absence date battery.

I hope Olympus change LCD display(on flip-out & rotating)... in THIS, or next model UZ... --- PS: I should like to ask OLYMPUS a favor: 1.8"-2.0" rotating LCD display, add 16:9 video mode with MPEG4 codec, add more 16:9 photo mode (for example 2560x1440), add tiny battery "CR1220" for save date/time.

Olympus SP-550 Ultra Zoom

THE GOOD: Great body design; high-quality, fast, wide, 18x optical zoom lens; sensor-shift image stabilization; manual exposure controls; RAW image capture. THE BAD: Very slow; high noise above ISO 400; slightly soft images. THE BOTTOM LINE: Olympus SP-550UZ has great ergonomics, but disappointingly slow performance and soft, noisy images drag it down.

Olympus SP-550 UZ

While I had a little trouble focusing on subjects that wouldn't sit still, the SP-550's 18x optical zoom with 100x total zoom let us shoot things I couldn't even see without looking through its lens. And I found that a lot of fun. A whole new world of birds, fish and buffalo, in fact. But the SP-550 was just as capable taking shots at wide angle and in Macro mode. Some of my flower shots really...

Olympus SP 550 UZ

The Olympus SP 550 UZ is a digital camera that falls under the Super Zoom style of cameras that feature optical zooms of 15x or more. With the 550 UZ Olympus sat down and decided they were going to try and be the top of the game for all the headline key features. This results in class-leading specifications: 18x optical zoom with a wide angle lens that is the equivalent of 28-504mm, ISO5000...

Olympus SP-550 UZ Review

The new Olympus SP-550 UZ is a bridge-style digital camera with an 18x zoom lens equivalent to 28-504mm on a 35mm camera - yes, you read that correctly, an 18x zoom, currently the biggest on the market. An optical image stabilisation system and ISO range of 50-5000 promise to counteract the inevitable camera-shake that occurs when hand-holding the SP550 at telephoto settings. A full range of...

Olympus SP-550 UZ

For the time being, the Olympus SP-500 UZ is an all-round digital camera, and if it is priced considerably lower that its competitors, it will be a perfect find for an experienced photographer in search of a second camera or a compact version of their digital reflex camera.

Camera Labs – Olympus SP-550 UZ review

The Olympus SP-550UZ is certainly a very impressive camera which can delight in many respects. The build quality’s great, the stabilisation effective and the massive 18x optical zoom range is extremely seductive. Shooting at massive focal lengths is of course pointless if you can’t keep the image steady, but the SP-550UZ’s sensor-shift system effectively eliminated any wobbles in our tests...

DCRP Review: Olympus SP-550 Ultra Zoom

The Olympus SP-550 Ultra Zoom is a great example of a marketing-driven cameras. I'm just guessing here, but the marketing folks at Olympus probably got together and said "let's make an ultra zoom camera with the biggest and baddest specs on the market", and then the engineers had to make it work. And it works, for the most part -- though plenty of compromises were made. While it's not the best...
