Strengths: good sharp photographs like the reviews say, useful picture modes, good battery life with rechargeable AA's, fits well in the hands
Weakness: heavy & bulky, red eye, low light photographs grainy with weird specs here and there, no manual aperture priority or shutter priority, bad on/off design , movies have no sound, crappy software
This is not a bad camera for the price but I would go for the Canon A60 -even though it's only 2mp, its got a lot more functions and its smaller. the olympus does take very good photograps in the day time with good contrast and colors - skin tones come out slightly dark but this can be fixed by meddling with the EV settings. Night photographs however aren't so great. they come out grainy and the...
Strengths: 250$, picture quality advanced settings
Weakness: 3mp, "smartmedia" limited to 128mb - now thats dumb!
camera takes great pictures. shutter delay: 1. camera has a "2" stage button: 1 to lock focus, 2 to shoot - this is typical, so "prefocus" the subject to minimize lag. 2. set camera to "sequential" mode to burst frames - start shooting BEFORE any anticipated action to make FULL RES movies (maybe 2fps no flash?) - and geep the good ones. this has yielded GREAT surfing pics vs the old missed shots...
Strengths: Easy to use and takes great pictures for the price.
Weakness: I use the camera alot and now the shutter button is having issues.
I love this camera but now the shutter button only works occasionally. Am considering trying to replace shutter button and spring. Anyone have any similar issues? I see that these items are sold online so is that a hint of the problem ?
Strengths: Excellent photo quality. Easy to use and navigate. Makes an nice "every day" camera with a few more controls than a plain point and shoot unit. Macro mode better than most.
Weakness: A bit heavier than I anticipated. Wish it came with rechargeable batteries and a wider wide angle.
Very happy. I've finally stopped using my 35mm cameras and switched to digital almost exclusively. Picture quality is excellent for a 3 Meg, but can show a little high contrast. Like the fact that it uses AA batteries, but you need to buy a set or two of rechargeables. A bit heavy because it does use 4 AA's, but very comfortable to hold. Easy to come up to speed quickly if you are familiar with...
Strengths: Great pictures like all the reviews state. Good battery life.
Weakness: The pop flash broke off in 10 days. Olympus will not admit the design is fragile and prone to break off. Warranty did not cover and cost to me was minimum charge of $143.
The 1 second delay in shutter snap is really a problem when taking any pictures other than "stills". There are better cameras on the market.
Strengths: The price! Shopped around and were suprised to find this camera priced at or below that of lesser cameras. Takes great pictures, and if you get a couple sets of rechargable batteries, its not so bad.
Weakness: The only thing that is bad is the flash, which you must manually return after you close the camera.
This was our first digital camera. I didnt (and still dont) really understand all the technical stuff that the manufacturers throw at you, so I just shopped around and read alot of reviews from other consumers. By far I feel that we got a good deal on a great camera and would recommend it to others!
Strengths: great pictures, uses AA batteries, compact size, easy to use software to get pics into PC
Weakness: only 3x optical zoom, "shutter delay" 1 sec
We bought this Olympus D-550 to take pictures of our daughter's volleyball games and then put the photos into an HTML newsletter that was emailed to all the parents. This is a great "first digital camera". We chose this model because of: Olympus brand name, AA batteries (I refuse to buy a camera that requires special, expensive, proprietary, useless in any other camera batteries.), optical zoom....
Strengths: This digital camera is much more powerful and useful than my present Olympus Dd-340 with optical zoom.
Weakness: None from my point of view.
I am pleased with the purchase of my Olympus D-550 digital camera. I purchased it from Digital Etailer and am very pleased with their service. Tom was very helpful and knowledgeable. I look forward to using the Olympus and would definitely buy again from Digital Etailer.
Strengths: Very good customer service!!
Received a confirmation email form John the salesman. Very polite and asked if I had any questions about the camera. If I receive the camera in 3-5 business days as promised, I will be a repeat customer.
Olympus Camedia D-550 3 Megapixel Compact Camera
Strengths: Excellent picture quality. Simple process to transfer pictures from the camera to the computer. Multitude of quality options for pictures.
Weakness: The shutter delay from pressing the button to when the flash happens can be annoying when trying to capture a picture of a baby who moves a lot.
Overall, this camera takes excellent pictures. I process them using a Canon color printer and am very satisfied with the resulting pictures even when using different size prints as small as 2" X 3". One of the features I find remarkable and haven't read in any other review is the ability to crop a picture right on the camera. You can take a picture from a distance and then crop it on the camera...
