But small compared to the D3. A real gem for indoor work. You can get 1/500 or 1/1000 at 2.8 at 200mm. Nice clear viewfinder. Will use all lenses made by Nikon since the 70's.
Strengths: iso and picture clarity
Weakness: none
this is an amazing camera, probably the last one you will ever buy. the pictures are extremely clear. The camera is easy to use and extremely durable. I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants an easy to use and durable camera
Strengths: FX(fullframe/no lens magnifying factor), High usable ISO till 6400, low noise, good frame rate,
Weakness: Flash exposure issues with flash, shutter, aperture setting. Color setting is too contrasty. Awkward combination of LCD, push buttons and dial controls(I don't like the layout)
After having used F4 shooting film for so long holding D700 seemed like it would work, but so far it's been a struggle. My SB25 flash got stuck, the exposure was rarely what I wanted, and hard to correct. It seems like there's more options, but none of them are of much use. The button lay out makes me hold the camera in a weird way(eg, the AE lock makes me stretch out my thumb way too far to hold...
THE GOOD: Excellent photo quality as high as ISO 6,400; fast focus and shooting, even in low light; first-rate build quality and control layout. THE BAD: Relatively heavy; low resolution for its class; viewfinder only provides 95 percent coverage and lacks interchangeable focusing screens; occasional issues with automatic white balance under artificial light. THE BOTTOM LINE: As long as you dont...

If you want the photo quality and "what you see is what you get" benefits of a full frame sensor, then look no further than the Nikon D700. It offers you a fantastic mix of photo quality, performance, build quality, and features, without having to spend the money on a D3. It's a rare day indeed when I review a camera that makes me want to sell all my gear and "switch brands", but the Nikon D700...

Is it rational to call a $3000 camera a bargain? It is when it delivers nearly all the features of the company’s revered $5000 pro model, which is precisely the case with the Nikon D700. Basically the D700 takes the best parts of two established cameras and blends them seamlessly. The $5000 Nikon D3 contributes a full-frame image sensor with low-noise performance that makes previously...

With a design and features that will attract a wide array of photographers, the Nikon D700 is the first full-frame digital SLR camera to break the $3,000 barrier at its introduction. The Nikon D700's full-frame sensor is...

The D700 is Nikon's second full-frame DSLR, taking the 12.1 Megapixel 'FX' sensor from the flagship D3 and squeezing it into a D300-sized body. This allows the D700 to share the same excellent high ISO performance as the D3 in a smaller, lighter and more affordable form factor. The D700 also features a 51-point AF system, high resolution 3in VGA monitor with Live View, an HDMI port for connection...
