This is my first serious venture into digital. I have been using a Nikon F5 for a number of years, and while I have been itching to go digital, the digital cameras before D70 where either too sluggish or far too expensive. Then D70 came around. In a nutshell it is fast, flexible, well built, and inexpensive (relatively speaking). Fast: this is the first camera that allows you to shoot 3 fps in...
Strengths: High quality photos. No shutter delay.
Weakness: Cannot use TTL mode with old flashes. Cannot meter with manual focus lenses.
This is a superb digital SLR at this stage, though I conjecture better ones will come out every few years. I believe you can find good words on this camera everywhere. So I list only the weaknesses which came to my attention. 1. The photo quality is higher than any compact digital cameras I ever used. However, there is still a distance to the photos taken by traditional SLR with professional...
Strengths: Very good image quality, Instant power up, No shutter lag, lightweight and easy to use.Supports ITTL and wireless flash operation.
Weakness: There seems to be a realiability issue with cameras produced in the first 6 months of production. Serials seem to start with 300xxx to 700xxx. Search for BGLOD (Blinking green light of death)
I preordered one of the first models to hit the US market in March 2004. I quickly fell in love with this camera as I was very impressed with how it handles, operates, and its image quality. I have made beautiful 18X24 enlargements from this camera that look better than enlargements I got out of a 645 medium format camera 15 or so years ago. The wireless flash system with the SB800s seems to work...
Strengths: Great picture quality, no shutter lag, instant power up, continuous shooting without load time, uses the Nikon lenses I already own, simple to operate/simmilar to Nikon film cameras
Weakness: none I have found
Great all around Camera. I used an Olympus DSLR that ran $1500+ a couple years ago, and this camera is 1000x better. Like I said I have not found any weaknesses yet, and I don't really expect too in the future either. It's just a fun camera to use. Also, I do not see any reason to pay more for a D70S. I was considering it because I did not want a "slow" camera. They advertise the S as having...
Strengths: This camera takes wonderful pictures. It is easy to use as a point and shoot camera even for an amateur and it has lots of bells and whistles for the professional.
Weakness: There is a lot to learn about the bells and whistles.
I am not a professional photographer, but I am able to use this camera successfully. I have used it mostly as a point and shoot camera, but am looking forward to learning more about all its other functions. I purchased it because I have other Nikon cameras and the lenses all interchange.
Strengths: Very Fast focus Professional control Good Price for a DSLR Amazing Battery Life
Weakness: Now, I need to buy all sorts of lenses .... $$$
Coming from Coolpix 5700 to D70 is like getting a frog getting out of the well. Before I thought 5700 is good enough. When I got my hands on D70, I realized I have missed out so many precious moments because of the slow focus speed on 5700. Shooting raw on 5700 is possible but too slow when saving so it's pretty much infeasible. But now I am doing RAW+JPEG on D70 which is so great.
Strengths: easy operation, very accurate metering, smooth shutter, highly recommend for serious photographer
Weakness: software included is not too versatile, but you can use PS anyway
a great camera under $1000! very compact design with multi-functions. great pro 3D matrix and color metering. great for daily shooting and complex situation. 6.1MP is good. the software is the only weakness I found but it's not a big deal if you have photoshop.
Strengths: Easy to use camera for anyone who has SLR experience. Photo quality is great.
Weakness: Not enough pixels for really large enlargements. I have gotten good 11x14 prints. If it were 12 megapixels - or even 8 megapixels it would be wonderful.
My camera broke down after two months of use and had to be sent into Nikon for repairs. It was gone for 17 days and I was really lost without the camera. Now I am really paranoid about it breaking down again. I am afraid I will be off someplace far from home shooting photos and it will break down again. I think one probably needs a good back-up camera after an experience like that. Back when I...
Strengths: Easy to use, intuitive design, good price, good quality, works with nikon lenses
Weakness: only 6.1 megapixels
I wanted to get a professional DSLR and already have a 35mm Nikon camera with many lenses. I know that Cannon is the cutting edge DSLR company with better quality, but for my purposes, photography is just a hobby, the D70 is perfect. I saved lots of money only having to buy the body and no lenses. I'm very happy with the camera and the quality is great. The prices now for the body only are well...

At $999, Nikon’s D70 has turned a lot of heads and started a great deal of gossip in the digital camera social scene — enough to ruffle feathers at Canon, whose EOS Digital Rebel was until recently the best deal around in terms of quality, options, and price. Although the price extends past the $1000 mark when a kit lens is thrown in ($1299), the Nikon D70 offers up stiff competition...

Nikon D70 6.1 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera Body Only
Strengths: Very fast camera operation, virtually no startup, minimal usage delays. Excellent continuous shooting, great throughput and 'Smart buffering. Very fast CF write performance.
Weakness: RAW+JPEG only captures a Basic quality JPEG. USB connection labeled as USB 2 but only supports USB 1.1 transfer speeds.
Overall GREAT camera, had to research and try to find a weakness. I would recommend this camera to anyone entering into the digital realm. The camera is extremely light but is balanced wonderfully. There is no delay from the time the shutter button is pressed to the action of of the shutter. Really gives a mechanical feel to the process. Easy to use menus and functions help to make sure you get...
