Tons Of Bang For The Buck - D50 Nikon!

Strengths: Fast-fast and fast; fast to startup, fast to take pictures, in fact what slows the camera down is my slow finger on the shutter. Battery life is amazing, I bought a spare but have yet to be in a pinch

Weakness: Okay I know there is something, but I am not a pro, just an avid shutter bug. Slows down slightly using the flash, using an external flash fixes that.

I bought the two lens package through B&H Photo online along with a few extras, their camera price was slightly higher but the accessories were priced VERY real. I added the 5 year MACK warranty for $89 (price that at the others), the battery and memory prices were just as honest. So here you have a great camera in the D50, and an honest online dealer. One cool thing is my old Nikon SS16 flash...

Nice camera solid product

Strengths: Feels like a toy. Made almost entirely of plastic

Weakness: Compared to other similarly priced cameras, this one is much more ergonomic if your hands are average or large. The picture quality is excellent. The kit lens should be adequate for most portraits and the like. Nikon makes great lenses, so if you plan on

I did a lot of research on the different entry/mid-level DSLRs before settling on the D50. I'm very happy with my purchase so far. Be sure to pick up some accessories like a padded case, tripod (make sure it's not one of those cheapo mini tripods that can't support the weight of a big DSLR), and a UV filter to protect the lens. A *large* SD card is also mandatory (> =2GB), and if you're serious...

Wow

Strengths: Very quick snaps with excellent picture quality. Solid construction.

Weakness: I would have to say the manual.

I've had the camera about two weeks now and I absolutely love it. It is my first DSLR and the difference of picture quality between the point and shoot and the SLR is amazing. The only drawbacks are the separate lenses and switching them. I wish I would have just bought the body and the 28-200 mm lens opposed to the two separate lenses. The manual is also very confusing to a SLR beginner like...

D50 Optical Nirvana --- Enough Said

Strengths: The camera's main strengths include: incredible shooting responsiveness, brilliant and vibrant colours,an awesome feel, and the acceptance of virtually every Nikon lens ever created. (Nikkor quality)

Weakness: For this quality and price of camera... there is absolutely none. Just check out the online reviews and awards it has captured.

For anyone moving up from a point and shoot digital camera you will love the Nikon D50 and the kit lens. You will instantly trade off the negligible novelty of short avi movie clips for the brilliant and vivid photos captured. Nature shots will come alive---no movie needed!!! ;-)

D-50 W/ 18-55 mm (only) - WOW!!

Strengths: Ease of use, image quality, versatility, compatible with earlier Nikkor lenses. battery life - amazing!

Weakness: no memory card included, flash must be turned off manually (when use is forbidden) each time the camera is turned on.

I have read all the reviews as of 1-29-06 and while I could argue with some comments (IE: bulky - SD card utilization) I find the camera delightful. I am a retired photography teacher who also worked part time in a camera store for 20+ years. I purchased my D50 last July. My decision to purchase the camera was based on many years of Nikon experience coupled with the fact that I already owned...

D50 With 2 Lens

Strengths: Very fast power up, setup, and auto focus. Large and clear LCD with image preview and zoom.

Weakness: Built in Flash will not control remote flash units without a flash commander function like the D70. Requires more expensive flash commander(SB800 or SU800) to control remote speedlight(s).

Image quality out of the box is very clean using "auto" everything setting. Taking picture of sports will require some easily made configuration changes other than the defaults. Great camera for the vacation (point and shoot) photographer and the person who knows how make adjustments to a digital equivalent of a 35mm camera to create a personalized image without a dark room.

Nikon D50 Review

Strengths: Camera Size (easy to hold) Weight (doesn't feel junky) Top Viewable LCD Display Programs (fully automatic or fully manual)

Weakness: 6.1 megapixel (more is always better??) Nikon Software is extra

When I was making my purchasing decision, I was undecided between the D50 and the Rebel XT. I went with the Nikon for one reason. The feel - it actually fells like a 35mm camera. It's big enough to really grip it. The XT felt small and light, the D50 felt robust and solid. The XT also had its control display LCD on the back, while the D50 had it's on the top. This was a nice feature. I was...

incredible pictures at a reasonable price

Strengths: fast startup time (nearly instant), pictures are extremely sharp and clear, AF-assist lamp allows you to focus even in low-light conditions, excellent battery life, uses SD memory.

Weakness: no DOF preview, no sub-command dial (takes an extra second to push the another button + roll command dial), no viewfinder grid, no RGB histogram, RAW+JPEG only saves as JPEG basic.

camera focuses quickly and is nearly silent. minimum focus distance is about a foot. i did upgrade the lens -- 18-70mm D70 kit lens. red-eye reduction works flawlessly. for what i've paid, this camera is nearly perfect. if only i could have the viewfinder grid, i'd be completely happy. battery life is surprising. i've done shoots that have lasted hours; have yet to run dry in the field. get lots...

wonderful pictures, will put my point & shoot...

Strengths: takes excellent pictures, sharp & great color, easy to use with intuitive menus, both lenses are good quality, great value for the $ with package deal, solid build, lots of features and ease of use

Weakness: no depth of field, no memory in kit, use of SD cards, no light for display, no image stabilization, wish it was a bit smaller in size

I an amateur photographer (own Nikon F3) and purchased this camera in early Jan '06 and have taken well over 1,000 pictures. I'm amazed at how long the battery lasts with one charge. The pictures come out great, indoors and out, compared to my canon 4mp digital point & shoot. They're much sharper with more life like colors. There's no waiting when turned on and it takes picture with no shutter...

Nikon D50 2-Lens Kit AF-S DX 18-55 and 55-200

Strengths: Very solid camera, good menu structure, relatively fast focus, outstanding image quality.

Weakness: Software provided (Nikon Picture Project) is weak, no RAW support.

This is my first digital SLR so I don't have much basis for comparison. I choose the D50 based on ease of use and quality of camera build. The camera was up and taking pictures right after the battery charged and I was able to get through most of the features in a few hours. The camera is a nice size, everything that I routinely adjust in every day use (ISO settings, flash settings, exposure...

Nikon D50

The Nikon D50 may be a so-called entry level model; nevertheless it offers the user almost everything. Nikon offers a model of the lowest priced segment; this will make us meet more Nikons in the street. The Nikon D50 D-SLR provides excellent colour rendition, fine bright and no overwhelming noise. Also the auto focus proved its good service and absolutely lives up to the expectations. Read our...

DCRP Review: Nikon D50

The Nikon D50 is a very good entry-level digital SLR that performs just as well as the more expensive D70s, though you'll lose a few features along the way. Even so, many people will be happy to ditch those features to get an affordable D-SLR that performs very well.

Nikon D50

Nikon and Canon have been fierce rivals in the photo business for decades now, and the advent of the digital era has only intensified the competition. Of course, this is nothing but good news for the consumer, as the battle between these two rivals (not to mention the rest of the growing pack of manufacturers), has resulted in a continuing stream of innovation and cost-cutting. The latest result...

Nikon D50 Digital Camera Review

The Nikon D50 is a solid contender among entry level DSLRs, providing users with a 6 megapixel APS-format sensor, 2.5 frames-per-second burst mode, vibrant color rendition, and excellent noise performance. Available at an MSRP of $899.95 and selling for around $700 or even below online, the D50 falls into an increasingly crowded segment of the DSLR realm. Supplying a 2-inch, 130,000 pixel LCD and...
