Description
The Maxxum 7D is the premiere digital SLR camera from Konica Minolta. Drawing on the tradition of technical expertise that gave birth to the Maxxum 7000-the world's first body-integral autofocus SLR, the RD-175-one of the world's first consumer-use digital SLRs, and the world's first washless photofinishing system-the NPS-1 Mini Lab, the Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D represents a culmination of the optical and photo-imaging expertise of two of the most respected names in photography. The 7D also inherits the intuitive operating ease of the award-winning 35mm Maxxum 7 AF SLR, and maintains full compatibility with the Maxxum system of lenses and accessories.

Strengths: Easy to use and also uses other Minolta Lens
Weakness: None noted
This camera is one of the best. It's very easy to use, if you know how to use other Konica Minolta SLR's you can use this one. I have a small point & shoot digital and this one is much easier to use. The pictures are beautiful and the anti shake system works like a charm.
Strengths: Clever body design and built-like-a-tank assembly quality. Quality viewfinder, gorgeous LCD screen, fast card write performance, lovely image quality. Anti-shake works very well.
Weakness: Finnicky flash system in any mode, occasional missed focus at longer subject distances, at least with the 50mm f/1.4. Focus motor louder than USM/HSM/Slient wave motors, but doesn't bother me.
I had no previous lens collection to sway my purchase decision of a new DSLR to replace my point and shoot. I felt that Konica Minolta made the best camera in it's class with the Maxxum 7D, and despite it's shortcomings, I still feel it's a superior product to the Canon 20D. To be sure, Konica Minolta does have some niggling issues to address, hopefully through firmware, but if not there, then in...
Strengths: External manual controls, rich color, low noise at high ISO, AS works on all your lenses, low cost high quality used lens, lots of customer settings, bright view finder, large LCD, build quality
Weakness: Reported issues with 5600HS. Lousy manual. Not the smartest indoor white balance.
7D is built like a tank. It's not weather proof, but the building quality is quite solid. The arrangement of external controls is great... Much more convenient than menu system. I hope there were an external flash button though (without sacrificing the customizable M-Set button). The LCD is large and easy to read all the recording information. Its viewing angle is not among the best (say,...
Strengths: Amazing number of switches and dials to control every part of a picture you could hope to imagine (unless you are truly a professional and even then I suspect you won't be disappointed)
Weakness: Not many that I can see. A little larger than I would like for an SLR but acceptable given the many bells and whistles this camera has.
This camera is to replace a film Maxxum HTsi. I have been waiting for Minolta to produce this camera for a very long time; then waited until there were a couple deals so the price would drop a little. After the long wait I am very happy finally have this camera in my hands. One of the best things about the camera is the way it uses the LCD display. Most digital cameras assume you want to use it...
Strengths: Anti shake, easy controls
Weakness: Only 6 MP, custom "modes" somewhat confusing.
I narrowed the selection in this category to two cameras, this one and the Canon EOS-20D. Each has a few advantages and disadvantages. I selected this one because it has the image stabilization built in, whereas for Canon you would have to buy that for each lens. Also, although it has a higher "retail" price, after rebates I actually got it cheaper than the Canon. The disadvantage is that the...
Strengths: The Anti-shake is an excellent feature as well as the the ability to handle all of my previous slr lenses from Minolta. The large viewing screen is a plus as well.
Weakness: I havn't found any prominate weakness on this camera, other then my own weakness of learning to switch to digital. One other thing that I should note is that camera DOES NOT accept the 5400HS flash!
I Love this camera. The 6.3 mp offers wonderful enlargement ptential for images as large or larger than 16 x 20. The large playback window is great for on the spot review of the images just taken. I also like the fast bracketing ability. I have seen previous reviews which indicated that the APO's don't work as well on the 7D, I don't find this to be the case. I have taken beautiful images using...
Strengths: Simple, sturdy controls. Compares very favorably in handling and features to the Digital Rebel, which I have used for several months waiting for this baby. Works with all Monolta AF lenses I own!
Weakness: 6.1 megapixel is less that comparably priced 8+ megapixel competitive models now coming on the market. But takes a good shot for most uses. If I wanted 30X40 posters, I would shoot large format!
My Minolta bias goes back to 1985, with the original 7000, which I still own and use. Been upgrading with Minolta ever since and have never been disappointed with any of it's dedicated equipment. I own no other brand, but have actually been using the Digital Rebel extensively for four months while I waited for this new baby. No comparison!!!!! So far have shot with prime lenses, 20mm, 24mm, 50mm,...
Strengths: interchangeable lenses, ease of use
Weakness: none yet
Have only been using this product for 30 days but have been very pleased. Just returned from a trip to the northwest coast and was extremely satisfied with the final result of alsost all photos taken. Put it through a lot of different circumstances, ie: lighting, water, and movement. Was concerned about earlier reviews concerning focus speed but did not have any problem. In fact was prety...
Strengths: This camera is compatible with our existing Minolta Lenses.
Weakness: The camera is a little heavy and the instruction book is not very well written. The instruction book lacks an index.
I bought my wife a Minolta AE SLR camera 15 years ago. I specifically purchased it because it did everything automatically for her including loading and rewinding the film. Over the years she has purchased additional lenses and experimented with different film speeds. a few years ago I purchased a Panasonic Video camera that also took digital still images. I found that I preferred the instant...
All things considered, the Maxxum 7D gets my enthusiastic recommendation. It was a real joy to use, and I was satisfied with its photo quality after increasing the sharpness a notch. If you've got a collection of Maxxum lenses laying around, you probably already have a Maxxum 7D. If you're new to D-SLRs the decision is more difficult, as the competition is fierce in this area. There are cameras...

Konica Minolta's new DSLR us the first to integrate an anti-shake system into the camera body. This means any lens fitted will benefit from anti-shake. We took the 7D to a major sports event to find out just how well this camera worked.

So long, Minolta...
Strengths: Anti-shake, Wireless flash capable
Weakness: Only 6MP, Only 6MP!
I've been a dedicated Minolta SLR's user for over 12 yrs and wanted a DSLR to keep my 8 Minolta/Tokina lenses (and other accessories) alive. However I was wishing for a more rugged, professional level contender equivalent to my heavy weight Maxxum 9. But after finding out that Minolta dropped out of the camera race, I found myself with no other choice than the semi-pro Maxxum 7D instead. It...
