Canon PowerShot SD850 8.0 MP Digital Camera

Strengths: Easy to use, small, lightweight, beautiful photo's

Weakness: None that I've found.

I bought this camera for my daughter's birthday and she said it was the best present I could have given her. Her last digital camera broke and she loves the SD850. We recently came back from vacation and the pictures came out beautiful. The camera is very user friendly. She likes that it doesn't take up much room in her bag and the small size. Another plus is that it has a battery pack instead of...

lens will not retract

Strengths: small and compact

Weakness: picures blurry

Got the camera for Christmas. It's April and the lens will not retract. Website FAQ is not working properly -- can't get any answers. I guess we'll try to send it in for repair. Very disappointed.

Buydigs very impressive

Strengths: got my camera, free shippping, in 3 days

Weakness: the $94 extra bundle was somewhat disappointing.

I was surprised when the camera arrived 3 days after ordering it. All was in tact. I tried it and the pictures look very very good. I was disappointed in the case. Too big. I thought it would be the Canon case, It was generic. The 'film'packet I purchased extra to protect the LCD is a bit hokey. Can't get the bubbles out even after the 2nd sheet used and scraper scratched the film.

This is the best pocket sized camera around

Strengths: Size, features, ease of use, intuitive operation, face recognition, image stabilization, large LCD

Weakness: A little pricy, but worth it - Included SD card makes the bundle seem 'cheapened'

I have 6 Kodak Easy Shares in my household. Mine was failing sporadically, four of the 6 Kodaks have been repaired so they're on my s#*t list with GM vehicles - run away, run away! I did some research and decided on the Canon SD850IS but the price was a little high so I decided to wait since mine worked most of the time. I saw a deal at Best Buy for $285 and figured it was time to pull the...

very nice compact camera

Strengths: compact, image stabilization, awesome LCD, 8M-pixel

Weakness: no wide-angle

I bought it for a little less than $300. Overall this is a great little camera. The images are sharp and IS function is very nice. It is a pity that SD850 does not have wide-angle shooting while SD800 have it. The 32 MB sd-card is a waste in my opinion. I highly recommend this model.

Powershot SD850

Strengths: Easy to operate & is intuitive. The size allows one to place in pants pocket & remove on a moment's notice. The auto mode allow for excellant pictures in most circumstances.

Weakness: Not able to shoot multiple pics in a row. There is a lag when using the live screen on the rear.

I bought the camera because I wanted to have a small compact camera that would allow me to not carry my large digital DSL when walking around town. But the camera had to have enough mp to allow 8 x 10 photos. I did my research & this camera was highly recommended. I must say that the camera perfectly satisfied my needs. I went on vacation in July and snapped about 2500 pic with this camera. It...

Great little camera

Strengths: Small, convenient, large LCD, 4X optical zoom, image stabilization, wide variety of shooting modes.

Weakness: optical viewfinder rather than digital, button and wheel placement is poor and almost to small to press or turn, battery life

I have been using this camera for a few days now and am in love with it. It is replacing a Canon Powershot A75 which had the CCD unexplainably die recently. The camera is nice and small and easily fits in my pants pocket. Normally these little point and shoot cameras don't have all the feature of the larger point and shoots, but this one matches them and more. Canon has pumped this thing with a...

Great Images, Great Image Stabalization, Very Tiny...

Strengths: great Canon quality images, great image stabalization, very compact

Weakness: be careful not to ever drop, its very fragile.

This camera is a great camera and well worth the money. I would definitely recommend this purchase. The only problem I have had with it is when I dropped it, the end is now not flush with the body of the camera (but still functional). It is very compact and even for my small hands easy to lose grip of. However, compared to other Canons I can appreciate its size. Great Canon image quality and the...

the TRUE successor of the award-winning SD700

Strengths: compact. great picture quality with DGIII and optical stablizing mechanism. a lot of useful features. semi-manual control. support different media cards.

Weakness: not real metal frame. no more wide-angle shooting.

Canon's model number can be confusing. there are SD700, SD800 SD900 SD1000 and now this SD850. SD700 was one of the DPreview top picks for its rich features and great pic quality. All SD800/900/1000 are not really the true successor of SD700. Now the SD850 is out and it has all the features of SD700 with improved hardware, including 4x zoom and 8M pixel, optical stablizing and DGIII processor. No...

Nice camera, but not perfect

Strengths: Ease of use, photo quality, face recognition, image stabilization, auto focus, sleek looks, flex ring selector

Weakness: can't charge battery inside camera, battery level unclear, flash partly blocked by lens barrel during macro mode, .avi format instead of .mp4, memory card not read by computer, mode selection wheel

I have the Japanese version (IXY 810 IS), but it is identical to the US & Europe versions (PowerShot SD850 IS & IXUS 950 IS) AFAIK. I bought this to replace a 2 year old Casio EX Z750 whose autofocus problems caused me to lose many good photos. I chose the Canon after narrowing down my choices from comparable offerings from Fuji (F40fd) and Panasonic (Lumix DMC-FX33). From the moment I popped in...

Canon PowerShot SD850 IS

THE GOOD: Great performance and image quality; solid image stabilization; face detection. THE BAD: No manual exposure controls; on/off button a bit awkward; noisy images at ISO 1,600. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Canon PowerShot SD 850 IS has just about everything youd want in a point-and-shoot.

Canon PowerShot SD850 IS Digital ELPH

With its 8.0 megapixel CCD, 4x optical zoom lens, image stabilization, and well-designed user interface, the Canon PowerShot SD850 IS takes over top spot in the popular PowerShot line with a compact body style well suited for travel. Exposure remains under automatic control, something novices will appreciate, and the Canon SD850's pre-programmed Scene modes help with more tricky subjects. But the...

DCRP Review: Canon PowerShot SD850 IS Digital ELPH

I've long been a fan of Canon's Digital ELPHs, and the PowerShot SD850 IS illustrates why. It stylish, ultra-compact, and well built. It has a gorgeous 2.5" LCD display and an optical viewfinder, a combination you won't find on most cameras in this class. It offers a few manual controls, just the right amount of scene modes, and not too many gimmicks. It's not the perfect camera, but as...

Canon Powershot SD850 IS Review

The curvaceous Canon Digital IXUS 950 IS (also known as the Canon SD850 IS) is currently Canon's flagship point and shoot compact digital camera. An image-stabilized, 4x zoom lens equivalent to 35-140mm, 2.5 inch LCD screen and fast Digic III image processor are just a few of the features offered by the IXUS 950 IS. Notable changes from its predecessor, the IXUS 800 IS, include an extended ISO...

Canon PowerShot SD850 IS Digital ELPH

If you're looking for a point-and-shoot camera that doesn't skimp on features, the Canon PowerShot SD850 IS Digital ELPH is a very good choice. The latest in Canon's popular Digital ELPH line to offer Optical Image Stabilization for steadying shaky shots, the eight-megapixel SD850 IS also has a 4X (35-114mm equivalent) optical zoom, Face Detection technology, in-camera red-eye correction, and...
