Awesome pictures, great camera !!
Strengths: The 12.1 megapixels sensor is absolutely fabulous. It captures the images in excellent details.I took poster size print outs after cropping the 4000x3000 resolution to 640x480 and was very pleased.
Weakness: The lens can be seen through the viewfinder. Too many manual controls.
This is a great camera if you're bored with the off the shelf point&shoot cameras. This will open the windows to a new world of sharp images and crisp colors. It is the best camera out there in the canon series in its class.

Strengths: Solidly built. Fast operation for photos (I don't do movies). Lens quality excellent. RAW "format" available (my favorite). Chromatic aberration minimal. Low noise for normal shooting.
Weakness: A 28mm low zoom would be nice. LCD screen extends away from camera body a little - screen protector edges are at risk of catching and peeling away. No major weaknesses at all.

Canon G9 Is Execellent
Strengths: Near DSLR quality prints when shooting at low ISO, Surprisingly good movie camera (720p), Many features not found in typical point-n-shoot, Image stablization works well
Weakness: No zoom in movie mode?, Noisy photos at high ISO (400 is OK for standard print)
For now, this is the best you can get in the category of pocket point-n-shoot cameras. Forgot to mention RAW capability for advanced users. Shop for a good price online ($430 or less).

This is your basic P&S with all the features that one really needs. Very flexible camera, I had the a650 too but I sold it since to shoot it raw with an 8GB SDHC card one has to format it in multiple fat16 partitions (the chdk hack only works with fat16 partitions) and that's just too much. This is much easier to shoot and to use if you're going to shoot raw. It is just a little too heavy for me...
