Strengths: Well built; Full frame CMOS, larger LCD (compared to 20D); Silent shutter; Compatible all EF canon lenses.
Weakness: Need to buy an external flash and it is too heavy after I add the Speedlite 580EX II flash. No LCD cover (unlike Nikon DSLR). From canon website, 5D only supports upto 8GB CF card.
Canon EOS 5D is positioned in between the popular semi-pro 20D and the true professional 1D series. It nicely fills up the gap. In summary: High resolution and speedy image processing Easy to operate Good image quality and low noise Take photos without card inserted In a word, I highly recommend Canon 5D if you are in the market for a high end digital SLR. Do remember to buy a good high speed CF...
Strengths: Full frame, incredible IQ, high ISO performance, wide and bright view finder, accurate white balance, long battery life, good handling, solid construction.
Weakness: None
I switched the system from Pentax to Canon, triggered by the recent deal on the Canon 5d body, 24-105mm lens and pro 9000 printer combo. I am very happy with my purchase now, although I will miss my 3 limited Pentax Lenses :D. The first impression that I got from the camera is its bright and wide view finder (thanks to the full frame). The body just feels right in my hand (I have relatively large...
Strengths: 1. Full frame dslr, good price. 2. Low noise with high iso 3. Advanced IS technology
Weakness: 1. Way of heavy, especially the lens 2. Digic II image processing cheap.
This is the famous 5D with *kit lens*. I was using a 30D with 17-40 plus 70-200 f4/L before. The first impression of the 5D camera gave me is its low noise in high ISO. The noise level of 5D at 1600 is comparable or even lower than my 30D at 640. This is ideal for indoor low lighting photography. The next feature of this *kit lens* (I doubt it could be considered a kit lens for $1k). The image...
Strengths: The 5D body is light weight, handy and yet rigid. The price for this full frame DSLR is affordable. The noise is well controlled. The EF 24-105mm f/4L IS is very sharp and well built.
Weakness: The 5D does not have anti-dust and life view features. The long end of the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS lens is a bit soft.
I used 5D with the 24-105 lens several times before and I was very satisfied. Now I've just bought myself the EOS 5D kit, which indeed a best bargain comparing buying the two separately.
Strengths: The EOS 5D is a good compromise for a significant number of photographers. It combines high image quality with the ability to fully utilize EF series wideangle lenses (like the EF 16-35/2.8L).
Weakness: There are mentions of the screen being too glary in sunlight. Be warned, it's almost unusable. Even if you shade it with your hand.
The 5D is more of a big brother to the EOS 20D than the little brother of the 1Ds Mk II or 1D MkII N. The 1Ds Mk II has everything - a 16.7MP full frame sensor, full weather sealing, 4fps continuous shooting, a built in vertical grip, a high capacity battery, the ability to use both CF and SD cards etc. The EOS 5D is a good compromise for a significant number of photographers. It combines high...
Strengths: Fast, Full Frame, Built Rugged, Excellent Photo's right out of the box.
Weakness: None so far, just got this about 20 minutes ago.
I also own the Canon 40D, which is an excellent choice, but I wanted a Camera where I can get the most out of these Canon L lenses I've invested in, without a crop factor, and with the 5D I now can!
Strengths: Full sensor Lightweight Amazing picture quality
Weakness: Can't find any
I take pictures for a living. I have used many different camera systems and always go back to Canon for their quality . The picture quality of this camera exceeds all of the Canon digital cameras I have owned,30D and 1Ds. The only thing I would like to see improved is a higher ISO for shooting in dark scenes. This camera rocks and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to step up to a...
Strengths: Excellent picture quality, No crop factor. Great Digital SLR.
Weakness: No built in fill flash.
5D is an excellent digital SLR,in terms of picture quality. But it is not an all around camera since it lacks built in fill flash. You have to depend on an external flash. There is no crop factor like other SLRs. So your 17mm lens will be functioning as 17mm with this camera. The included kit lens 24-105mm L lens is a great carry around lens. Overall I am satisfied, still not a complete solution.
Strengths: Image quality; Full Frame
Weakness: Easy to get dust inside; 3FPS too slow
I am an amateur photographer and have been longing for a 5D for over a year. 5D does not disappoint me. Its image quality is unbeatable. However, the first 5D that I received had a bad top LCD, and the second one has a dust inside the focus screen that can not be cleared unless I take the screen off. Poor quality control...

When the 5D was first announced it was met with mixed feelings. On the one hand were former 35mm users who rejoiced at the first 'affordable' full-frame body, while on the other were photographers who'd got used to coupling cropped bodies with ultra wide optics and wondered if there was any point. Then the Nikon D200 arrived and proved you could enjoy fractionally lower resolution with tougher...

Making an entry into the increasingly competitive Digital SLR market, Canon’s new EOS 5D takes its place beside their 1Ds Mark II as one of only two full-frame models currently available. The 5D’s 35.8mm x 23.9mm 12.8 megapixel single-plate CMOS sensor, coupled with the application of Canon’s EF mount, enables full utilization of all Canon EF autofocus lenses with full preservation of their...

Great camera - even almost 3 years after introduction
Strengths: Excellent high ISO performance Resolution to spare Good lens
Weakness: Body lacks some of the bells and whistles of new cameras 3fps
There is not much to say about this camera that hasn't been said. If a camera that is almost 3 years old is still in production, that speaks to the quality of the camera. The only cameras to beat this in high ISO performance are the just released Canon MkIIIs and Nikon D3/300. At this price, there isn't a camera that comes close to this one in my opinion provided you use it for non-fast moving...
