I love this camera. My two biggest criteria were low light performance and size. I think the TRV22 is a good compromise between the two. The low light performance is great, much better than the Canon's and better than the new smaller vertical Sony cameras. There is a very slight motor noise picked up by the microphone but it's not that noticable. It does pick up wind noise really bad but I think...
Strengths: It has good low light ability, good steady shot, it is small and light. The standard battery last a real hour +.
Weakness: no wind cut circut.
This is my fourth camcorder and my second mini DV. The dvd writing software controls the sony to make editing easy to make dvd's with menus. My past mini (panasonic} had wind cut which I have found I miss. The picture is sharp and it will focus the "sony" on the lens cover with it closed. The zoom works at a nice even tempo, not to fast. I found it at a great price here.
Strengths: Ease of use and not overloaded with stuff you don't need and the "spot meter" is invaluable.
Weakness: Still image quality, cost of after market upgrades, and the lens needs a wider field of view.

This is a great camera. I purchased the trv-50 before this and was not happy. It was a lot more expensive, but the picture quality did not justify the price difference. The video was sharper than the trv-22, but there were way too many digital artifacts and striping on straight lines. The Trv-22 does not suffer from these problems.
Strengths: Easy to use. Excellent video picture quality.
Weakness: Accessories costly. Still images could be better
The TRV22 is an excellent all around camcorder. It fits the needs of the point and shoot as well as the more sophisticated user. I have used this camcorder to record in low light situations and have been very pleased with the results. The camcorder small size makes it a joy to carry around and use.
Strengths: Very user friendly, compact size, comes with remote, 'End Search' function, good price, solid design.
Weakness: Picks up the sound of wind a bit when filming outdoors.

Eventhough TRV22 has very nice features, and found the video color quality very poor. I bought this because of Sony name, and was totally turned off by its color reproduction. For example purple appears as light blue, and red is reproduced as orange, etc. I think I will go with JVC 500US that is about $200 less expensive.
