The price you pay, this is an average product. CCD is too small to be effective during low light. The battery life is really good on this unit. Bulky and heavy. It uses the Digital 8 format tapes.

Strengths: Compatibility w/ 8mm tapes; that it is digital; good sound
Weakness: Still pictures resolution; zoom is touchy (moves too fast)
Not a bad camera for the money, but would go for one with better still resolution (i.e. the TRV 740 or 840). If you already have old 8mm or Hi8 tapes, this Sony line of Digital8 recorders is a good way to go, but would spend the extra $100 or so to move up to a higher resolution CCD. If you don't need the 8mm size, you may be better off with a recorder that uses Mini-DV instead, as it will be...
