Strengths: small, lightweight, feature set, performance;
Weakness: none yet
This little powerhouse is loaded. Setting to film in 16x9 (for widescreen TVs), night vision, great user features and perfomance. So far I haven't seen a downside. I love this camcorder!
Strengths: Great 22x optical zoom. Great for sports and plays when you can't be near person or whatever is being video taped. Very easy to read manual, very helpful. Easy to learn and oh so small. I love that.
Weakness: Would have to buy a light extra if needed.
Very easy to use and comes pack full of features and effects. Though if you are downloading and editing on a pc you won't need them. The 22x optical zoom is great. Was easy to use and the price is right. I looked at others but the price really is what I went for.
Strengths: Very good mid range DV, ease of use, compact, price vs. features, solid user manual.
Weakness: average low light recording, average sound
Works as advertised. User friendly, decent email stills - they are very good for 640 x 480, but not printable. Won't replace a digital camera, but it adds to the utility and fun of the camcorder. Has many top-end features such as real analog pass-thru to send your old camcorder images straight to the computer, IE1394 "Firewire" and USB connections, multitrack audio,etc. Came with a very readable...

It has three shooting modes; video mode, photo mode and progressive photo mode which stores photos on the camcorders MultiMediaCard rather than the MiniDV cassette. Photos...

Canon ZR50MC Mini DV
Strengths: Great 22X Optical zoom. Videos captured outdoors are great. Lots for features for the price!
Weakness: Poor indoor performance! Too much noise in low-light situations. Motor noise. Photo captures are not for printing (as with any other cam) - only for web or emailing.
I was excited to get my first MiniDV cam. I took this unit outdoors and was really happy with the video playback - they were great! It produced natural looking colors and a very sharp picture. My enthusiasm quickly turned into frustration when I started shooting indoors. This camcorder produced noticeable noise/artifacts in low-light environments. My Hi8 camcorder produced less noise in the same...
