Strengths: Size is very small, shutter speed is fast, cutom modes are perfect, love the looks, love the locations of the buttons, MiniDV, both Firewire and USB cable ports. Supports both Mac and Windows.
Weakness: tight accessories (no bag, etc.), low res images
I want to tell you guys that this camcorder is perfect for people who crave small camcorders yet they are on a budget. This camcorder has a lot of modes to choose from. The shutter speed is fast. The general key locations are right at your finger tips. Though some people complain that the motor sound can be heard, but I couldn't hear it in movies that I took. I even tryed recording movies in the...
Strengths: Very small, a lot of features, including analog>digital>analog conversion. Works great with my iMac.
Weakness: poor sound pickup, poor video quality even in what seems like ample light, many features only accessible if you have the screen flipped open, noise from motors dominate all but the loudest sounds
I read reviews, saw the product in the stores, and asked salesmen of opinions, and I was conviced this was the camera for my family. It is very small, but that is really where the strengths stop. The sound of the motors in the camera can be heard in many different situations. Sound is picked up only from people that are speaking directly to the camera less than a few feet away. Forget about...
Strengths: Small & Compact...easy to hide into your coat pocket. All metal design...strong and durable...no plastic. Canon customer service...professional and reliable.
Weakness: The internals of this camera are poorly constructed. I had multiple repairs done under warranty until I finally gave up.
This camera is poorly made. Stay away from the canon compact digital video lines until the Optura 400/500 come out (perhaps some marked improvements). WEB sites are plagued with product complaints regarding the Elura 50. At around 10 hours of recording it craps out on you, requiring service. I could no longer even get the tape out. The sounds of the tape loading are frightful....you can tell it...
Strengths: Small size, ease of use
Weakness: microphone location, battery life
I always research my purchases to death before buying. A video camera was no different. I liked the Elura 50 for it's size but was hesitant due to some reviews of poor low light performance. When I got a chance to pick one up for a steal, I took the leap. I'm glad I did. The video quality is great as is the ease of operation. I can use all the technical features I want and with the flick of a...
Strengths: Canon Elura 50 strengths in the realm of compactness, superior Canon optics, excellent digital video quality, excellent camcorder in its class.
Weakness: Short lived camcorder battery life. Elura 50 does have MPEG - 4 feature. Lux is only 2.5 not recommended in near low light situations whereas shutter speed is only 2000. Cannot edit video on cam.
I highly recommend this camcorder to any avid computer videographer. This is one of the best camcorder in its class compared to JVC, Sony, Samsung, or Panasonic. I have used every one based video performance, lens, shutter speed, color viewfinder, operating camera controls, sound quality, optical and digital zoom lens, analog conversion capabilty, ease of use of menu items on camcorder display,...
Strengths: Stylish design, firm and comfortable grip, superb video effects
Weakness: Low CCD pixels, Low battery life
Canon Elura is a very good product for travelers because of its compact design. However, it produce poor quality of video under very low light conditions. Moreover, it only generates 680000 pixels CCD still pictures, well, it is fair but not enough to catch exciting moment.
Strengths: Small form factor, ease of use and common battery & charger as my S40 Canon camera.
Weakness: Battery life is short with standard battery.
Although I've only had the Elura 50 for only a few days, I think it's a great DV cam. I've used it to record my kids Christmas shows and found the size and zoom outstanding. I would highly recommend the DV cam for anyone who is looking for something small enough to take anywhere.
Canon Elura 50 Digital Camcorder - 2" LCD - CCD
Strengths: My review is for the Elura 40 (About a yr older than 50 but basically the same camera) 1) Size Matters and this guy is awesome.
Weakness: 1) I have read other reviews where the camera locks up and this happened to me after 6 months. Canon did repair it for free and it has been great since but that lockup scares the hell out of me.
I'd buy it again but lock-up is an issue. Tech dude at Cannon said it was major overhaul so I worry that another overhaul (on my dime) wouldn't be worth just buying a new camera which ain't cheap. It hasn't failed a 2nd time so maybe that have it right with the Elura 50 as mine is an Elura 40. Small size amazes people who wonder how you are filming for so long as they mistake it for a still...
